About the Role

Position Description
The role of a Support Worker is to assist in maximising the living, employment, social and recreational skills of people with a disability and/or are aged. Community inclusion, independence, decision making and personal choice should be promoted through these supports, with a focus on individual needs.

The Support Worker is a valued member of Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation and contributes to the development of service practice through regular staff meetings, planning processes and policy reviews. All service delivery must be in line with the Policies and Procedures of Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation and the requirements of the NSW Disability Services Act and the Aged Care Act.

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Providing support to Aboriginal individuals within the local community, helping them to achieve their goals through capacity building to assist them to remain living independently in community.
• Work with team to develop strategic marketing plans, and report to Service Coordinator on the stated goals;
• Develop and implement external partnerships and ensure all relevant stakeholders are communicated with effectively and consistently;
• Prepare and submit reports for monthly one on one and monthly team meetings;
• Liaise with other community organisations to improve interagency relationships;
• Manage and oversee all general administration tasks associated with the role including;
o Telephone and Email communication;
o Database maintenance;
o Stock control and monitoring of promotional merchandise;

Requirements

Selection Criteria (Essential)


  1.  Aboriginality. The position is an identified Aboriginal position. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977

  2. Qualifications in Community Services, Individual Support, Aged Care, Disability, or similar; or equivalent experience in a support worker role

  3. Demonstrated experience supporting Aboriginal clients who are aged or living with disability

  4. Strong understanding of person-centred and culturally safe care

  5. Ability to plan and facilitate engaging group and individual activities

  6. Excellent communication, organisation and documentation skills

  7. Computer literacy and confidence using client databases and digital tools

  8. Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and NSW Driver Licence (unrestricted)
