Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation (SRAC) is a proudly Aboriginal community-controlled organisation serving Greater Western Sydney. We provide culturally safe, wraparound services from our Penrith Community Hub and Yanala Aboriginal Child and Family Centre in Doonside.

SRAC deliver comprehensive, culturally safe services that empower and strengthen our people.

Led by culture, driven by community needs, and focused on addressing the disparity in outcomes, SRAC has demonstrated excellence in Aboriginal service delivery in the region.

Our Story

Sydney Regional Aboriginal Corporation Legal Service (SRACLS)’ was founded by Trevor Christian OAM in 1996 with funding from ATSIC to provide legal services at a regional level.

Uncle Trevor realised the massive over-representation of Aboriginal people in the criminal justice system, the disproportionate number of Aboriginal people in the prison population, and the critical importance of addressing underlying criminal justice issues facing Aboriginal Australia.

In 2006 the Organisation became Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation (SRAC), and began working with Aboriginal people with disabilities, and their families providing Advocacy (Indigenous Disability Advocacy Service, or IDAS) and Social Support groups.

We have continued to grow and evolve to now include a range of services to local Aboriginal communities including NDIS and My Aged Care services, targeted early intervention supports to Aboriginal families and programs within schools and the Justice system that empower, build capacity and foster social & emotional wellbeing in a culturally safe and inclusive environment.

Our organisation prides itself on strengthening our participants through social engagement, building on their skills and empowering them to reengage in community.

We continue Uncle Trevor’s legacy to this day, representing the most disadvantaged and vulnerable in our Community and providing them with the tools to enable them to regain choice and control of their own lives.

Our Philophosy

Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation (SRAC) strongly believes that all of our participants have the right to access the most appropriate care and support services. We are committed to helping individuals develop self-sufficiency and maintain independence within the community.

Indigenous-Led

As an ACCO, SRAC is built on cultural knowledge and lived experience. We understand that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples often face greater barriers when accessing care and support. Our services are designed by mob, for mob, ensuring they are culturally safe, respectful and empowering.

Culture & Connection

We understand the vital role culture plays in health and wellbeing. Extended family, kinship networks, and strong community ties are central to supporting our people to remain independent within their communities, especially our Elders and those living with disability.

Person Centred

Our care is guided by a

person-centred approach, focusing on each individual’s unique needs, preferences, and goals. We work alongside participants to support their independence and empower them to remain active and connected within their community.
