About the Role

Position Description

The Aboriginal Programs Facilitator is responsible for facilitating and assisting with the delivery of SRAC Programs, events, and group activities within SRAC and the wider community.

The Aboriginal Programs Facilitator will also provide information and referral of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to other relevant Aboriginal programs and services.

Key Responsibilities

- Facilitate and assist with the delivery of SRAC Aboriginal Community & Outreach programs
- Assist in the development and coordination of SRAC events and community awareness activities that increase access and participation for Aboriginal people
- Build a rapport and facilitate the effective engagement, referral, and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to access other relevant Aboriginal services and programs
- Work closely with local community and health services to provide holistic and integrated care services.

Selection Criteria


  1. Aboriginality. This position is an identified Aboriginal position. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977

  2. A strong commitment to working with Indigenous people & communities, and a broad understanding of the issues experienced by Aboriginal people in the local community

  3. Qualifications in Community Services or previous relevant experience and willingness to complete these qualifications 

  4. Demonstrated skill in working with people with complex and challenging behaviours, and ability to maintain professional boundaries

  5. High level of verbal and written communication skills, experience in recording case notes and use of client management database

  6. Must be able to work unsupervised, be reliable, manage workload and meet deadlines

  7. Familiar with local Aboriginal communities and community service providers in Western Sydney 

  8. Must have current Police and Working with Children Check, NSW unrestricted driver licence, and a willingness to travel within the community as required

Sydney Region Aboriginal Corporation (SRAC) is a community controlled not for profit Indigenous Corporation operating from two core locations, SRAC Community Hub in Penrith and Yanala Aboriginal Child and Family Centre (ACFC) in Doonside. Our mission is to improve the health, social, emotional and economic wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

SRAC provide a range of programs to address the ongoing disparity between Indigenous and non- Indigenous people. We facilitate early diagnosis and early intervention of disability and/or at-risk behaviours, education, family supports, cultural connection and capacity building training and support services in an environment that fosters resilience and self-determination.
