About the Role

Position Description

Reporting to the Community Programs Coordinator, the Community Drop-in Support Worker is responsible for delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed frontline support to Aboriginal individuals and families accessing Yanala Aboriginal Child and Family Centre in Doonside.

Essential

1. Aboriginality – this is an identified Aboriginal position under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

2. Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture, values and community needs.

3. Experience in a frontline, community-facing, or crisis support role.

4. Strong skills in de-escalation, emotional support, and engaging with people in distress.

5. Experience with intake, brief assessment, and making internal/external referrals.

6. Ability to manage day-to-day logistics and liaise with external service providers.

7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal.

8. Organised and reliable, able to work independently and in a team.

9. Current Working with Children Check, Police Check and NSW Driver’s Licence.

 

Desirable

1. Knowledge of services and Aboriginal communities across Penrith, Mt Druitt, Doonside and surrounding areas.

2. Experience in a community hub, drop-in centre, or similar environment.

3. Event or activity coordination experience.

4. First Aid and/or Mental Health First Aid certification.

5. Familiarity with documentation, outcome tracking and basic reporting.
